Setting Your Hormones Up For The Day In The Morning

Do you wake up first thing in the morning, turn off your obnoxious alarm, and check your phone right away? Did you know this can disrupt your cortisol, and therefore your hormonal cycle?

Here are a few tips to try implementing in the morning to start your body off on the right track.

First, assure you are getting enough sleep. Go to bed earlier to support your circadian rhythm. Our 24 hour clock has a direct influence on hormones and getting to bed at a reasonable hour while prioritizing enough time for quality sleep is a must for establishing hormonal balance.

Second, let in natural light and don’t go on your phone right away! Try using an alarm clock that is separate from your phone, or use a wake up light. Exposure to daylight stops the production of melatonin, a hormone that helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle by promoting sleep. Sleeping with the curtains open or partially open may allow the sun to wake you naturally.  Additionally, exposure to light during the daytime can support a healthy sleep-wake cycle.

Third, if you’ve been around for a while, you know how much we love affirmations! Start your day with some affirmations to start your day:

I have the power to create the life I desire.
I am not a victim of circumstance.
Everything is happening for my higher good.
I trust in the process of my life.
I choose to react with compassion and love.
I am strong.
I am kind.
I trust my intuition.
I am grateful for another chance to live my life.
I am excited for the day before me.
